November 27, 2019 Yangon – The Ford EcoSport was named Best City SUV 2019 and the Ford Ranger Raptor was named Best Pick-Up Truck 2019 in the Drive Magazine “Myanmar Car of the Year Awards”. Capital Diamond Star Foundation donated whole-genome sequencing (NGS) machine to Ministry of Health and Sports
Yangon, November 16, 2019 – Capital Diamond Star Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Capital Diamond Star Group (CDSG), donated a next-generation, whole-genome sequencing (NGS) machine to the National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory, National Tuberculosis Programme, and Department of Public Health, Ministry of Health and Sports, together with New Zealand Embassy, members of the New Zealand Myanmar Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Otago. Current, conventional tools can neither effectively diagnose drug-resistant TB - compounding the drug-resistant TB burden - nor identify how drug-resistant TB is being transmitted. An NGS machine can, on a patient-by-patient basis, provide comprehensive genetic information on the bacteria that causes TB (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) which can be used to identify drug resistance. This in turn supports rapid clinical decision-making and effective diagnosis of drug-resistant TB, ultimately improving treatment outcomes for patients. Additionally, data gathered from NGS can be used to unravel TB transmission patterns, which cannot be achieved with current conventional diagnostics. Myanmar is listed by World Health Organization as having a top fourteen TB burden in the world. TB prevalence is Myanmar is at rate three times higher than the global average and one of the highest in Asia. The National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory, National Tuberculosis Programme, and Department of Public Health have been working diligently to fight this public-health threat and are constantly working to obtain cutting edge equipment to assist in this fight. The donation event was held at Melia Yangon hotel and was attended by the Minister of Health and Sports and government officials as well as representatives from New Zealand Embassy, the New Zealand Myanmar Chamber of Commerce, the University of Otago, senior management team from CDSG, guests and the media.
